Fitness industry’s finest 5

Nikola Man

Today I wanted to do something slightly different and give you my top 5 fitness content creators and sources. If I am being entirely honest, learning from their content (it is free of charge) will make your more educated and knowledgeable on topics such as diet and exercise than most “fitness instructors”. I have already given brief descriptions and links to their content here on my website, I felt like this deserves to be in article form as well, so here it is my top 5 go-to sources in the fitness industry:

#1 – Lyle McDonald

It should be enough to say that this man is almost single-handedly formalized and popularized the concept of “If It Fits Your Macros”. This is not a joke, all these people you see hashtagging IIFYM and propagating flexible dieting owe their Instagram accounts to Lyle. Everybody is talking about Keto diets nowadays, yet the first and the most comprehensive modern scientific overview was done by, you guessed it, Lyle.

On top of that, the man has 3 decades or so of theoretical and practical experience. While you have to pay for his books (or not if you find free PDFs) he has a website where you can find 250+ free articles on a wide array of topics in the field of fitness. This might seem like a facetious remark but I am being entirely serious, mastering the content on his website will LEGITIMATELY make you more qualified to talk about nutrition than 99% of people in the fitness industry. That includes bodybuilders and models, nutritionists, gurus, coaches and instructors.

If I haven’t managed to convince you that it is a good idea to check his content out, maybe some of his articles will so head over to bodyrecomposition.com and see for yourself.

#2 – Jeff Nippard

He has an awesome science-based YouTube channel which offers advice on how to set up a training program, busting fitness myths, vlogging and much more. His series on science-based workouts has been a huge inspiration to my own ongoing series of articles on training program design.

The best part about Jeff’s work is that it is very digestible. You do not need a degree in any of the related scientific fields. Another amazing aspect of what he does is that he leaves the studies he references in the description box of his videos so that you can read on your own.

Here’s his YouTube channel, enjoy.

#3 – Renaissance periodization

I don’t have much to say except that their team consists of many PhD holders and practitioners with several decades of coaching and/or competitive experience. While you have to pay for the majority of their products which are among the best on the market, their website is home to a small library of free articles.

Their series on hypertrophy guides is unparalleled.

Additionally, their most prominent member, Dr Mike Israetel, has done many appearances on these two YouTube channels: JTS and RP; you can search for his video appearances there and learn a ton for free.

#4 – 3D Muscle Journey

This is yet another amazing team of individuals consisting of elite level natural bodybuilders, PhD holders and coaches. They are best known for creating the nutrition and training pyramids that you’ve probably seen circulating all over the web.

You can find 15 pages of articles here and their YouTube channel here.

#5 – Revive Stronger

While this team of content creators and coaches have an awesome website, I would like to focus on their YouTube channel with the same name. Steve Hall interviews all the brightest minds in the fitness industry and posts said interviews to his channel. His list of guests contains all the names above and more. It truly is the best fitness science podcast out there and it is available for free. Well, technically you have to invest the time but at least your wallet won’t get any lighter.
